I volunteered my time at the Steel Yard in Providence, RI to fabricate and weld a viking ship for the 7th Annual 2012 Halloween Iron Pour. Working in collaboration with other artists, we created a piece that was included in the molten metal pour. Artists from the steel yard foundry melted iron in a cupola furnace for almost the entire day. The iron needs to reach 2,800 degrees Fahrenheit before it is poured. The skilled artists at the foundry put on a show for the crowd. They spun metal, turned the steel dragon into a steel fire breathing dragon, and covered our viking ship in iron. After completing the viking ship and other smaller projects for the show, I was able to watch with the crowd as our piece covered in cardboard and burlap went up in flames.
