While working for the art gallery director at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, I was given the task to be one of the primary creators of the clay harpoon exhibit. This exhibit was first introduced to the university by the slovakian artist Ilona Nemeth. She proposed a show to be installed in New Bedford that reflected the whaling history attached to the city. In this project I created the plaster molds that were then pressed with ceramic clay. I was one of three primary harpoon makers in the project. I created about 300 ceramic clay harpoons over the course of two months. People in the community volunteered there time to collaborate and help. I loaded the kiln and students from the ceramics department at UMass Dartmouth volunteered to fire all the harpoons. During the process I taught many people how to create these clay harpoons. The end result was a large site-specific installation of about 1,500 clay harpoons in the university gallery.
